Dr. Nicola is an Educational Psychologist with a passion for supporting children, young people, families, and wider systems. She currently works as an Educational Psychologist, providing assessment, consultation, and systemic supports. Dr. Nicola holds a BA in Psychology from Maynooth University and an MA in Guidance Counselling and Lifespan Development from the University of Limerick. Prior to completing her doctorate, Dr. Nicola worked in schools as a Guidance Counsellor, supporting young people and advocating for their needs, and later as an Assistant Psychologist in community-based services. Dr. Nicola went on to complete her Doctorate in Educational Psychology at University College Dublin. Dr. Nicola has experience working across a wide range of settings and with multidisciplinary teams. Her practice is grounded in a holistic, strengths-based approach, with a strong commitment to empowerment, collaboration, and ensuring that young people’s voices are central to the support they receive. Dr. Nicola’s areas of special interest include inclusive education, supporting neurodiverse learners, mental health promotion, and gender inclusion. Her doctoral research explored the role of Educational Psychologists in supporting Transgender and Gender Diverse (TGD) young people in schools. This was the first study of its kind in Ireland and highlighted the unique and practical contribution psychologists can make in fostering inclusive, affirming school environments.
