Wise Minds – Level One- Beginning on the 9th of September 2017 (9.30am-11.30am)
This group is for pre-teens and teens who are exhibiting risky behaviours or experiencing significant difficulties with their emotions. For example; actual or threats of self-harm, suicidal ideation, low mood, low frustration tolerance, extreme emotional distress; Intense anxiety, depression, or anger; Problems in peer or family relationships and emerging or actual eating disorder behaviours. Both pre-teen and teen groups are being run to ensure a service is provided for children and adolescents of all ages, and to allow for age appropriate peer groupings.
The group teaches skills from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), with elements of mindfulness, and aims to develop the following skills; Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation; to increase mindful awareness and focus; Increase positive emotions; Replace impulsive behaviour with skilful behaviour; Navigate painful changes in peer relationships, address self-consciousness, self-hatred, or shame. Group members are encouraged to use skills they are learning to work on their personal goals and family relationships. Ongoing participation in individual therapy is encouraged while participating in the group.
All who want to attend are required to attend an initial consultation to determine suitability. The cost of the initial consultation is €120.00. This is a 9 week course and parents are required to attend for some sessions. The cost of the group is €400 per person. Place are strictly limited to ten per group.
